The Advent Narratives
The Advent Narratives is available in December as a program that highlights selections from the Gospels and Revelation, using drama and hymns, helping the congregation celebrate the weeks leading to Christmas. The emphasis is on the foretold coming of the Lord, with reflections on each of the narratives, as well as reflections on the four evangelists and the audiences for which they wrote.
This program is about one hour and fifteen minutes without intermission. It makes use of music, props, dramatic lighting, and candlelight. It is uncommon to hear the gospel accounts in a parallel way, so the effect of these texts one after another is refreshing and informative. Using a large portion of scripture in this way helps make a surprisingly profound discovery of Advent, and is an excellent way to prepare oneself for the experience of Christmas.
